Natural Coolant for the Reefer-containers

As per announcement by Carrier Transicold, industry has recently got CO2 as the new "environment-friendlier" refrigerant to be used in the reefer-container temperature control systems. It is not about the natural CO2-based refrigerant medium R-744, but also about the new refrigeration-unit design.

Benefits of R-744 are:
  • non-ozone depleting medium
  • global warming potential (GWP) of 1 score, while the synthetic coolant R134a has GWP of 1320, R404a - of 3260
  • CO2 used is the gas retrieved from the atmosphere, thus not adding to the environmental hazards if leaked out
New unit design allows for:
  • more efficient heat transfer
  • power efficient inverter-type fan and compressor control

Carrier Transicold, a company pioneering the technology, is shortly launching the full scale trials of the systems.

Vessel propelled by machinery or vessel under oars?

Could anyone provide an answer if the below examples could be considered as examples of the power-driven vessels or vessels under oars (for the pure sake of Rule 25 of course!)

What about taking all her way off by stopping or reversing her means of propulsion??!
