There will be no changes to Volvo Cars’ transit routes while the future of the Ford-owned, Swedish-based carmaker is still uncertain, a Volvo source confirmed.

Oleksii Chepok, deputy director dry bulk terminal at TransInvestService Ltd. in the Ukraine told this newsletter that the governor of the Odessa region of the Ukraine, Mr. Mykolai Serdiuk, held a press conference following his return from the recent CPMR Baltic Sea Commission conference in Gothenburg. Mr. Serdiuk reported that he had met with Volvo representatives at the conference and that the car company had plans to transit cars destined for Russia via one of the ports in the Odessa region. According to Mr. Serdiuk, there were also plans to build an assembly plant nearby and to offer long term leasing of Volvo equipment to local port operators.

Ford has nominated the Chinese company Zhejiang Geely Holding Group as the preferred bidder for its Volvo Cars nameplate. Until due diligence is complete and funding for the bid secured, no new logistics initiatives are expected.
